孩童试着怯生生的步子，
他觉得世界是新奇的。
青年迈着大步，
他觉得要追赶的东西太多。
老人蹒跚地移步，
他觉得剩下的路特别值得留恋。

The child walks in timid steps,
He feels the world is new and strange.
The youth advances in big strides,
He feels there’s so much for him to pursue.
The old man dodders along the way,
He feels the remaining journey particularly lovely.

黑发渐渐褪色。

Our black hair weathered to gray.
In order to soothing the frosted head,
The setting sun dyes it a golden and crimson red.

Days pass by my window.

People pass me by without noticing me,
But days are silently changing me.

每一个“将来”都在向“过去”隐退，

The same as we see from a fast moving train.
Every Future is receding into Past.
The Present is but a transient cognition.

People are all passengers on board the train of Time.
The young keep talking and laughing along the way,
They expect every station to be a tourist sight.
The old are huddled up at Memory’s corner.
They suspect every station to be a destination.
Nevertheless, Death may take away anyone irrespective of age.

过去的日子像树叶那样一片片随风飘散，
日子的落叶上印着亲人的面容，
印着确实有过的大大小小的事件，
印着欢笑的眼睛或者泪痕。
这一切都向远处飘散，
在眼前或深或浅，
然后无影无踪，
像是幻影。

Past days, like leaves, are scattered in the wind,
One after one, with the dear ones’ images on,
Together with past happenings, big and small,
And smiling eyes or tear-stained faces.
All those are drifting far away;
Unerring or blurring before the eye,
Then traceless,
Like mirage.

王宝童 河南舞阳县人，1963年毕业于河南大学，在英语诗歌、诗歌翻译、声韵学等方面有精深的造诣，现为河南大学外语学院英美文学研究室主任教授、博士生导师、中美比较文化研究会理事、英国诗书学会会员。著有英语诗歌理论专著《金域行——英诗教程》、《金域音——英诗声韵》、《金域荣——英诗运化》。另有英译《王维诗百首》，英译《三字经》、《千字文》、《弟子规》，格律严谨，音韵和谐，获得普遍好评。
